France has long been at the forefront of the battle to promote a global rules-based order. Today they remain more than ever engaged in promoting multilateralism and tackling global issues such as climate change and the regulation of AI, with dedicated summits in 2025 (UNOC Conference in Nice in June, AI Summit in Paris in February 2025). They are one of the main security providers in the region, both in the Indian Ocean and in the South Pacific, with their oversea territories which represent over 2.7 million French citizens, in addition to an increasing diplomatic network. With Australia they are glad to partner within the G20 for a more sustainable global growth. This bilateral partnership is currently expanding, with over 750 French companies doing business in Australia, bringing their savoir-faire and cutting edge technologies, ranging from energy transition with a new Franco-Australian research centre (FACET) to utilities, decarbonising transports and luxury goods.
