France has long been at the forefront of the battle to promote a global rules-based order. Today France remains engaged more than ever in promoting multilateralism and tackling global issues such as climate change and the regulation of AI, hosting dedicated summits in 2025 (UNOC Conference in Nice in June, AI Summit in Paris in February 2025).
France is one of the main security providers in the region, both in the Indian Ocean and in the South Pacific, with oversea territories which represent over 2.7 million French citizens, in addition to an increasing diplomatic network. France is a partner with Australia in the G20 in working towards a more sustainable global growth. The bilateral partnership is currently expanding, with over 750 French companies doing business in Australia, bringing their savoir-faire and cutting edge technologies, ranging from utilities, decarbonising transports and luxury goods to energy transition with a new Franco-Australian research centre (the Franco-Australian Centre for Energy Transition).
