Alex is a career officer with the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade. She is currently with the NSW State Office which engages with foreign missions, business, state government, academic and community leaders across Sydney and NSW on Australia’s foreign, trade and development policy.
Her previous role at DFAT was with the Australian Volunteers Program, including leading on the government campaign to discourage orphanage voluntourism. From 2001 to 2009 she worked on international projects with the Albion Street Centre, a care and treatment facility for people living with HIV/AIDS. Alex first joined the public service with the AusAID graduate program, working on gender and development, development banks and Pacific policy.
Alex holds a Master of International Studies and Bachelor of Arts from the University of Sydney and Graduate Certification of Public Relations from the University of Technology Sydney.
Grace is a Research Associate in the Lowy Institute’s Indo-Pacific Development Centre working on a forthcoming Southeast Asia Aid Map that will track and analyse foreign aid and development finance flows to Southeast Asia from 2015 onwards.
Grace joined the Lowy Institute from the Australian Strategic Policy Institute in 2023 and previously worked as a sub-editor in the Federal Parliamentary Press Gallery. She holds a Bachelor of Politics, Philosophy and Economics and a Bachelor of Development Studies from the Australian National University.
Alex is a Legal Officer in the Office of the International Law at the Attorney-General’s Department, with a current focus on international human rights law, and air and space law.
Prior to joining the Office of International Law, Alex was an Associate to the Honourable Justice Stewart at the Federal Court of Australia.
After graduating with a Bachelor of Laws and a Bachelor of Arts, majoring in Government and International Relations, Alex commenced her career as a solicitor in private practice in a large plaintiff law firm. She has also worked as a lawyer at the Royal Commission into Violence, Abuse, Neglect and Exploitation of People with Disability.
