Dr Jonathan Symons is a Senior Lecturer in Macquarie University’s School of Social Sciences. His current research focuses on emerging challenges in global climate policy, including governance of carbon dioxide removal, solar geo-engineering and engineering biology. His most recent book Ecomodernism: Technology, Politics and Climate Crisis (Polity, 2019) explores the argument for increased state investment in low-carbon innovation. He has published widely in journals including Global Environmental Politics, Global Policy, Energy Policy, Environmental Politics, International Theory, Social Forces, Review of International Studies, and The Pacific Review. Prior to joining Macquarie University (July 2013) Jon held positions at La Trobe University (Melbourne) and Lingnan University (Hong Kong). He received his PhD from the School of Social and Political Sciences at the University of Melbourne in December 2007. He has been a councillor at AIIA NSW since 2021
