Ambassador Thanh presented credentials as Ambassador to Australia on November 27, 2020. He is also accredited to Kiribati, Nauru, Papua New Guinea, the Solomon Islands and Vanuatu. He was Ambassador to Thailand (March 2013 - June 2017) and Deputy Permanent Representative of Viet Nam to the United Nations, New York (January 2005 - January 2008).
In the Ministry of Foreign Affairs he has worked in the ministry’s Cabinet, the department of multilateral economic cooperation, the ASEM 2004 and APEC 2017 national secretariats, and the department of South-east Asia, South Asia and South Pacific. He has been engaged in bilateral and multilateral negotiations including the bilateral trade agreement (BTA) with the United States, Viet Nam’s accession to the World Trade Organisation (WTO), ASEAN’s free trade agreements with various partners, Viet Nam’s trade and cooperation agreements with the European Union (EU) and the Comprehensive and Progressive Trans-Pacific Partnership agreement (CPTPP).
Ambassador Thanh pursued his BA and post-graduate studies in Viet Nam, Ukraine, Switzerland, Japan and the United States.
